Respond to FOIA requests in accordance with rules and instructions as set forth in the USCG FOIA Policy and Privacy Act Manual.
Process requests on a first in – first out (FIFO) basis which shall be determined through sequential numbering of requests, meeting the twenty (20) working day requirement.
Acknowledge receipt of the request to requestor within five (5) working days when the request will not be completed within ten (10) working days.
Proofread final copy of any documents to ensure each document is free of errors.
Ensure that all completed requests are properly addressed to the requester, include all documented contact with the requester and the response letter contains the correct FOIA/PA number and the current date.
Ensure final submission of responsive documents are properly organized in accordance with USCG and DHS policies and procedures.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and clients.
Prioritize tasks and follow through to completion in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
Read, analyze, and accurately interpret documents such as operating instructions, technical procedures, and regulations.
Effectively communicate with employees and the client.
Identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Active Public Trust clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) from accredited institution.
One (1) year of FOIA experience; analyzing information in FOIA requests to determine what is being requested.
One (1) year of experience redacting files in Adobe Acrobat.
One (1) year of experience creating letters with Microsoft Word.
